What to Wear This Fall: 2025 Secondhand Trend Preview

As the leaves turn and the air gets crisper, fashion is whispering “prep school meets Y2K,” with a sprinkle of vintage glamour and unexpected textures. Whether you’re scrolling through TikTok, pinning on Pinterest, or flipping through Vogue, here’s what our crystal ball (and current trend sources) are shouting:

1. Y2K Prep Revival

Think neatly tailored blazers over pleated skirts, ballet flats, chunky layering, and low-rise trousers peeking out under cardigans. We saw this trend start last fall with iconic Miu Miu pieces and the idea of dressing like an “office siren”. This fall we are elevating that idea with preppy styling and bright Y2K colors.

How to shop it: classic 90’s work silhouettes are the best thing to look for when scanning the racks at your favorite vintage store. Vintage basics like a good button up or a suede blazer are best when found secondhand.

2. Vintage Fur (Faux or Found)

Yes, grandma’s coat is back. Runway coverage and trend roundups are pointing to a renewed interest in teddy furs, cropped shearling, and full-on plush coats. We love a statement jacket, and bonus points if it’s functional in keeping you warm!

Where to find yours: Here is a little sneak peek inside what we will have at our booth at the upcoming Not-A-Normal Market (for more information head over to @normal.nyc) Vintage fur is one of the most ethical ways to join in on this chic style.  Wear it with a pair of straight-leg jeans and your favorite white tee to balance rich texture with easywear.

3. Pony Hair Bags

Textured accessories are having a moment—especially pony hair, which adds both texture and attitude to even the simplest outfit. We are currently DROOLING over a vintage  Yves Saint Lauren Mombasa pony hair bag. That little extra texture just screams fall.

Where to shop: We love doing a deep dive on ebay or poshmark for a vintage bag, but if shopping IRL is more your speed we are featuring a special luxury collection of secondhand vintage designer bags at Not-A-Normal Market! Get your tickets now and come see these beauties IRL!

Honorable mentions:

  • Stripes. We saw polkas this spring and summer. Stripes are next.

  • Tweed. The perfect pattern for staying warm this fall.

  • Royal Purple. Bright and bold.

Fall fashion always feels like coming home, especially if you are a New Yorker. It’s the season of layering textures, mixing eras, and letting your fav vintage treasures shine. Whether that means a fur coat that looks straight out of a ‘70s film, a vintage plaid skirt , or a bag with just the right amount of character. The best part? These trends aren’t about chasing what’s new, they’re about re-discovering what’s already out there.

Catch us at our upcoming fall events (including Not-A-Normal Market NYC — tickets here!) to shop the trends in person and build a fall wardrobe that feels as one-of-a-kind as you are.
